A visit to Puerto Rico is incomplete without visiting the only tropical rainforest in the United States national forest system, El Yunque National Forest. Located about 90 minutes east of San Juan International Airport this rainforest is a haven for tourists, hikers, waterfall lovers, photographers and in short, just about anyone that loves the outdoors. With its unique ecosystem El Yunque is home to several species of flora and fauna. La Coca waterfall is the first attraction that a visitor to the forest comes across and is situated between KM 8.1 and 8.2. The waterfall is at an elevation of 400-450m above sea level. On a rainy day the mist rolling in from the mountain slopes provides an ethereal feel to this waterfall. There are several other waterfalls along the La Coca trail, which can be quite a challenge for the unseasoned hiker.
