These beautiful yellow trilliums grow abundantly along the mountain slopes in the Appalachian range. They are especially concentrated around the Gatlinburg, TN and far western NC part of the Appalachian range. This photograph was taken on the Greenbrier trail of the Smoky Mountains in mid-spring (April, 2009). It has been said that these flowers grow rampantly in the shade of the deciduous trees and I have seen that in a good year, they are just about EVERYWHERE! Using a prime macro lens I got in very close to the flower and used the yellow petals from another trillium as the backdrop for this photo to give it the fine art type of look. Beauty lies everywhere around us; we just need to seek it and see it!
