Perhaps the greatest architectural wonder in the history of mankind, as stated in the World Heritage Site honor bestowed by UNESCO, the Sydney Opera House, architected by the Dane Jrn Utzon is a treasure for not only the Aussies, but the entire world. The Opera House as we know it today was in reality an act of serendipity thanks to the renowned American architect Eero Saarinen who pulled Utzon's design out of the pile that was rejected by the judges judging the entries.
40 years since its opening, the Opera House is a major tourist attraction and a venue for the best of the best theatrical performances. During the winter (Australian summer) during their yearly festival the light shows need to be seen to be believed. A must see during a trip to Sydney, its perfect location along the quay is perfect to take a leisurely stroll, take in a top-of-the-class art performance and then spend the evening at one of the many cafes in and around the Opera House before rounding out the evening.
