Every year the Krewe of Muses kick starts the mega parades, leading to the weekend of super parades. Tradition has it that this parade is always scheduled on the Thursday of the week prior to Fat Tuesday. The Muses, according to Greek mythology, are the nine daughters of King Zeus. If you have ever visited New Orleans and paid attention to the street names, you will find that nine streets have been assigned the names of the Muses. For the paraders, this happens to be one of the their favorite parades. True, it used to be the only all-women parade but in recent years there have been a couple of other parades that have sprouted that are all-women as well. If you have plans to visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras, get there the week before Fat Tuesday and in time to witness this krewe of Muses as they walk down the historic St Charles Ave.
