The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peters and Paul in downtown Philadelphia is an architectural marvel. Located at 18th street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway this lovely monument is a short walk from many of the hotels in downtown. The architecture is primarily Roman-Corinthian and the basilica has been modeled after there Lombard Church of Saint Charles (San Carlo al Corso). A hit with the history buffs, the construction of the basilica was initiated by Bishop Francis Patrick Kenrick in 1846 and completed in 1864.
