The santcum (altar) at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin is just pure, untainted beauty of architecture and devotion. The archways leading beyond the altar to the stained glass give the entry way a three dimensional feel. Add to it the wonderful lighting from the lamps, you've got an atmosphere where you can almost feel yourself reach into your soul to examine it in great detail! The peace and tranquility of this cathedral has to be experienced to be believed.
Its been said that St. Patrick started baptizing people into Christianity at this site circa 450AD. And it wasn't until about almost 400 years later that documentation showed the presence of the cathedral at this site. Historical timeline on the cathedral's website puts the timeline when the current building was erected around 1192 AD!! The rich history is evident from the moment you set foot inside the cathedral. Enjoy a guided tour and learn more about the important historical & natural events that this beautiful monument has withstood in its longevity. I sure was blown away by the facts and more so by the intricate architecture, which started many eons ago and still stands the test of time and forces of humans and Nature!
