Oak Alley Plantation

If you are visiting New Orleans, Louisiana, you certainly have to plan to stop by the many plantations along the Mississippi River and take in the beauty and southern charm of these plantations. Some of these are several hundred years old and the stand out one to me is Oak Alley Plantation, within an hour's drive from New Orleans on a good day without traffic.

This is an absolutely stunning piece of architecture with natural beauty surrounding the mansion. The grounds of the plantation have been magnificently manicured and utmost care has been taken to preserve the beautiful oak trees. You can either make a day trip out of it or you can stay at one of the many cottages they have on site and spend a night or two with a loved one and put a spark in your love life! The morning light, especially in winter, when there is a chance of fog settling in, is very romantic and taking a stroll out in the gardens before or after breakfast puts you in the right frame of mind to start your day. Be sure to take a guided tour of the mansion; the guides are very well informed and don some of the traditional costumes while they give you a tour of the antebellum mansion.

At the end, top your tour off with a Mint Julep that will make you feel good for the rest of the day ;)!! During my time there, I unfortunately did not get to visit any of the other plantations but have future plans to visit this beautiful Crescent City sometime in the near future to tour the other mansions. For the moment though, enjoy the images from Oak Alley. If you need more information just head over to www.oakalleyplantation.com.
